Childhood Films Blogathon

childhood-films-blogathon

The lovely Caz at Let’s Go To The Movies is hosting her second Blogathon this summer, all to do with our favourite Childhood Films. There are rules of course, and here they are in Caz’s own words:

The Rules
Ok so instead of saying a film can only be wrote about once, I have decided to leave that open. You can indeed write about just one film if you want. But let’s make it more interesting and pick a few films. At least 3 and at the most 25, you can do it in list format and rank them. Or just simply write your blog post around them, try to explain why they were your favourites and if you still enjoy them to this day – as I am sure some of this would have changed!
Dates
Look to have your entry submitted over the weekend of Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July 2015 – this gives you a month to get involved!

I’m quite a nostalgic person so I’ve rambled on a fair amount about some of my earliest childhood films, but I thought that for this blogathon I could tell you about some of my most watched films as a child.

My Mum claims that I made her watch Beauty and the Beast (1991) with me once a day every day for about a whole year, but considering the fact that it’s her favourite Disney movie, I question the truth in that. I remember finding some parts quite scary, but I loved the music and the songs, and I still do to this day. In fact, I wonder if my fiance will let us play Tale as Old as Time at the wedding…

One film I remember watching a lot is Homeward Bound (1993) although I remember barely anything about it now. Was there a sad part at the end? I’m feeling a little emotional and I’m not sure why. Talking animals must have captivated my imagination, but I am sorely tempted to rewatch this now to see if I enjoy it just as much now.

At the top of the ‘watched too many times’ list is A Bug’s Life (1998). I had the sticker book for this film, and I’m pretty sure I completed it too. That must have cost my parents a fortune. at a time when I had started collecting Pokemon cards too. Anyway, I loved the moment where all the ants slowly stand up against Hopper, and OH MY GOODNESS I just realised that Kevin Spacey voiced him. Holy moly, I need to rewatch this!

labyrinth-childhood-films

This is weird, Labyrinth (1986) was released before I was born and yet I remember watching it a lot. This must be my Mum’s influence once again! It starts with a young girl being made to look after her baby brother, doesn’t it? I think I remember having dreams about summoning a goblin to take away my baby brother, ha! #sorrynotsorry

  1. I love all of these except Homeward Bound. I hate that movie. I hate any movie that involves a dog getting hurt (and dying for that matter) When the retriever fell through the rail road tracks I started bawling. lol

I love that you chose A Bug's Life. That's one of my favorite Pixar movies and everyone else always rates it very low on their lists.

    1. That'll be the moment! I knew there was a sad part I couldn't remember. Now I'm cautious about re-watching it, ha!
A Bug's Life was my whole childhood. At a time when I was just learning what bullies were, that film was my saving grace :)

  2. Great insight into what your movie-watching childhood was like. I really like A Bug's Life and enjoyed Beauty and the Beast. Haven't seen the other two. Been meaning to see Labyrinth forever. Still need to do that. I'll always pass on Homeward Bound. Talking animals in live-action kiddie flicks tend to grate my nerves. Great post.

    1. I don't think I've watched a film like Homeward Bound since Garfield, that was more than I could handle, ha!
Let's make a pact together to watch Labyrinth, I can barely remember it and I need to rewatch it soon!

  3. There's definitely nothing wrong with Beauty and the Beast, I myself, recall watching that one a few times over and over again as a youngster (wow, just re-reading that made me sound old). I miss the days of original Disney soundtracks. I know I've seen Homeward Bound, and I probably even own it in my private collection but I can't for the life of me remember a thing about it. A Bug's Life is one movie that I have put off seeing all these years, because quite frankly a movie featuring talking bugs just doesn't interest me one bit. I know lots of people who have recommended it, telling me how great it is over the years - just have no interest in seeing it. Finally, Labyrinth is a movie I've been meaning to watch but it just hasn't crossed my radar yet.

    1. I never realised that A Bug's Life wasn't highly rated by most, but I would honestly recommend it. It focuses more on teamwork and beating bullies than 'hey we're so small, look how big everything is!'.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't remember a thing about Homeward Bound, ha!

  4. Beauty and the Beast is always a good one. I watched that quite a bit, too (although not as much as Aladdin). Homeward Bound I haven't seen in forever. A Bug's Life is a interesting and good choice. It always seems like that's the Pixar movie that is frequently overlooked the most. I haven't seen Labyrinth at all but I've heard a lot of good things about it. Fingers crossed he lets you play Tale as Old as Time!

    1. I might just sneak it onto the list for the DJ and claim ignorance...!
Until now I didn't realise that A Bug's Life was so overlooked, the film was my entire childhood, I swear!

  5. First of all thanks for taking part in the Blogathon. Love the way you have approached the post and looked at which films you have watched the most, I think Beauty and the Beast was a big favourite of mine for a while! I don't think I've ever seen Homeward Bound but remember it being a trailer on a video haha.

    1. Thanks for organising it, Caz! This was so much fun to put together. Can't wait to catch up on everyone else's posts :)

  6. I love Labyrinth. That would also be on my childhood films list. Probably watched that more than any other movie, and I have the soundtrack too. Then my childhood films get less childlike from there. The only other movies I remember "wearing out the tape" with were The Last Dragon and One Crazy Summer. Then there were a bunch of 80's horror movies like Critters. I watched plenty of children's movies, but these are the movies that I remember watching on a loop. Not sure what that says about my childhood. You have a nice list though. Like I said, Labyrinth is awesome, and of course Beauty and the Beast is one of the all time greats from Disney.

    1. Gosh, I forgot all about the soundtrack to Labyrinth. I really am going to have to rewatch it soon. I love that horror movies were a big part of your childhood! They never were in mine, and that's probably why I can't bring myself to watch them even now, ha!
