This is the first time of jumped on the Thursday Movie Picks band wagon without tagging onto the end of Allie's and this has to be my favourite topic so far. I'll let Wandering through the Shelves explain Thursday Movie Picks in their words....
Hello there and welcome to Thursday Movie Picks a weekly series where you share three movie picks each Thursday. The rules are simple simple: Each week there is a topic for you to create a list of three movies. Your picks can either be favourites/best, worst, hidden gems, or if you're up to it one of each. For further details visit the series main page here.
Soo I spotted one of my favourites on the hosts own list - Sky High, it was great twist on the superhero movie, but no point going over the same movies again and again so I thought I would choose another three...
Fantastic Four (1994)
Based on the comic book movies that are coming out now, this one seems pretty lame but at the time I loved it. It was my first experience of a comic book movie and really one of the first superhero movies I really enjoyed. Having loved this so much when it came out, I am a little apprehensive about the up and coming reboot but The Amazing Spiderman didn't disappoint me so fingers crossed.
Chronicle (2012)
Bit of a twist on the typical superhero movie (and maybe cheating just a tiny bit), I loved how it was a different view on what happens when one day you develop super powers. Somehow it seems a more realistic approach than squeezing into a lyrca suit and mask and chasing down villains. Also one of my first films with Dane Dehaan who I love.
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
I'm going to go all 'typical' and choose one of the popular ones :-) I can't help it, I absolutely LOVED this film. Ok the villain was a bit wet and really had no reason to destroy the Earth but everything else made up for it, the soundtrack, the characters, the acting, the dialogue and the CGI work, brilliant. I remember watching the whole film with a massive grin on my face and it still happens every time I watch it.
Guardians! Yeah, I did not love the Fantastic Four movies. Silver Surfer is one of my all time favorite comic book characters and they kind of butchered him in the 2nd one. I'm glad you liked it though! The reboot should be interesting.
ReplyDeleteYeah I wasn't a fan of the second one either. This was just my first taste of comic book movies so it has a sentimental place in my list :-)

I've never seen Chronicle but now that it's come up on a few lists I may have to give it a go.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a twist on the classic superhero movie, more like what it would be like to get super powers in the real world not a comic book universe :-)

Nothing wrong going down the popular route, normally they are great choices. Guardians of the Galaxy has to be my favourite marvel movie. Toyed with picking Chronicle too, it's a fine choice.
ReplyDeleteI just love it so much, I'm not a huge repeat watcher for movies but I can watch Guardians over and over and never get bored!

Guardians! LOVE that movie so much. I went there too. Chronicle is also so good. I'm not a fan of Fantastic Four, but I'm hoping the new film is good :-D
ReplyDeleteI saw the trailer for the new Fantastic 4 on the big screen last night and I have to admit, it looks significantly better - plus my new favourite person is in it, Miles Teller so that's a win!

Guardians of the Galaxy was SO much fun! Love the soundtrack, too.
ReplyDeleteChronicle was such a surprise. Really, really good.
I am glad Fantastic Four exists only for the pure hotness that is Chris Evans as Johnny Storm.
Chris Evans is quality eye candy, I agree :-)

Great to have you join us this week, Jenna, and what interesting picks you chose. Never liked for Fantastic Four, haven't seen Chronicle but it sounds intriguing, and really only liked Guardians of the Galaxy for it's soundtrack than the story.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely give Chronicle a go, its so different from everything else, really that's why I liked it so much, it was not at all what I expected.

I haven't seen Chronicle but Guardians was very enjoyable because it didn't take itself too seriously. Fantastic Four was one of my picks this week along with the first Tobey Maguire Spiderman and the original Christopher Reeve Superman.
ReplyDeleteNice picks, I personally preferred the first Andrew Garfield Spiderman but did enjoy the first set when they came out initially.

Chronicle definitely qualifies. Its a wonderful movie, to boot. GoG is also excellent. Hated both FF movies with a passion. Btw, the first one came out in 2005, not 1994.
ReplyDeleteOops that's what I get for trying to rush a post together!!! I didn't like the second FF at all although hate might be too stronger word, I just expected more after enjoying the first one so much.

The first Fantastic Four movie (technically second, but the 94 never officially came out) is a guilty pleasure of mine. I will readily admit that it is not a good movie by any means, but I still enjoy it quite a bit. The chemistry between Chiklis and Evans is so much fun it really makes the movie for me. The second one isn't even a guilty pleasure though. Chronicle is not a cheat in my opinion, it's a really great modern take on the superhero myth while making more realistic than any other film save Unbreakable. And of course, Guardians is awesome. - Bubbawheat
ReplyDeleteYeah I messed up on the dates in my haste to post :-/
DeleteI've seen Unbreakable on a few lists, I had completely forgotten about it. Might have to watch it over again because I can't really remember a lot about it!

Nice picks! Cool to see Fantastic Four as a pick, though I admit to not seeing all of the two movies. Chronicle sounds great! Adding it to my watch list. :)
ReplyDeleteOooh let me know what you think when you've seen it. :-)
