Top 10 TV shows I NEED to watch (Jenna)

I have actually started this one, I've watched the first episode but it just hasn't gripped me so I just haven't got round to carrying on.  Anyone who has already watched this, does it get better?  Also, is every episode in the following format: dramatic start, boring middle, cliffhanger - therefore the only reason why you watch the next episode it to find out the follow up to the cliffhanger?

If Orange is the New Black is anything to go by Netflix original series are worth a watch anyway, but also I love Kevin Spacey, its won numerous awards so I think I need to get a move on with this.  Can anyone tell me what it's about though?

I've heard that this is  bit like Once Upon a Time but a bit darker which I like the sounds of as OUAT can be a little bit cheesy at times (I still love it though) but this could fill a gap until the mid-season premiere in March.

Apparently, they are making Entourage: The Movie.  I feel like I need to have seen the series before that comes out and I have been keen to start watching this, I think it looks great.

This has been recommended to me and based on the title I DO NOT want to watch it, however I have been informed that it's not a horror - Can anyone confirm this?!

I saw one random episode of this when I was overseas and there was nothing else on the TV and I actually really enjoyed it, not that I knew what the heck was going on!  This is one that once I start I'll be hooked and I'll binge watch the whole thing in a weekend.

I have less than no idea what this is about but EVERYONE seems to be talking about it, therefore I feel I should give it a go.  Can anyone clue me in as to what it's about?

This is for Allie, she LOVES this series and I have promised her for years that I will watch it so we can discuss it in depth at every Flick Chicks movie night and I just keep putting it off.  Now she has started Supernatural, I think it's only fair that I give this a go!

Am I the only person in the world that hasn't seen 24? It really didn't appeal to me when it came out, then I got a bit interested but realised I was already 2 seasons in and there is TWENTY FOUR episodes in a season - I get why there are so many obviously but still - OMG!

Many will probably not agree with this choice, but I was a HUGE fan of Gossip Girl and The OC so surely I will love this?!

  1. That's a list right there. House of Cards is one of the best TV shows ever created, I'm almost certain. It is beautifully dark. Kevin Spacey is just unreal good in it. Entourage is one of my favorite series as well. It's fun. The first three seasons are the best. The middle seasons drag a bit, but it ends strong and the movie looks awesome! Can't wait to catch up with these characters again. You pretty much nailed it on The Walking Dead. The first couple seasons are good, but not great. The third season is ok at times, but mostly laughably bad, redundant and boring. The fourth season, though, is absolute genius. Seriously, I don't know what happened, but I started back up on it, and I am loving the fourth season.

    1. Sorry. Forgot to add that House of Cards is about a U.S. Congressman and Majority Whip (an appointed Congressional official who enforces Party guidelines) from South Carolina, played by Kevin Spacey, who schemes his way around Washington, basically trying (by ANY MEANS) to have the most power possible. His wife, played by Robin Wright, is equally conniving.

    2. House of Cards seems to be a popular choice in the blog world. I've started Walking Dead now so once I'm up to date with that I'll get on it.

  2. I'm a big fan of The Walking Dead, but it's definitely not a "good" show. It's entertaining, and has some great characters, but it's not the best one out there. I still watch it every week though, I'm hooked. lol

    1. I'm quite addicted now (half way through Season 3) but I know what you mean, its not as good as a lot of shows out there!! I do find the middle of each episode a bit boring but then the cliffhanger at the end drags me back in!! - Jen

  3. I've just started House of Cards and it is FANTASTIC. It's really well written and Kevin Spacey just owns the role of Frank. It's all about political backstabbing and different agendas - Frank is looking to get revenge on other senators after he is passed over for the role of Secretary of State. Then there is Kate Mara's character Zoe who is a reporter for the Washington Herald and its about her relationship with Frank and how she makes her way up the food chain as well.

I've zoomed through S1 and it just keeps getting better and better - how Frank manipulates everyone around him is really well done, and the audience is never out of the loop because Frank breaks the fourth wall and tells us what he thinks (usually dripping with sarcasm!)

Walking Dead is good too - the most recent season (S5) has flagged a little in the middle but for me the show really hit its stride in S2/3. It certainly does get better as it goes on.

    1. Really looking forward to giving House of Cards a go, I'm a huge fan of Kevin Spacey, re-watched Pay it Forward a few days ago which was the first movie I ever saw him in!

  4. I like the Walking Dead...it's definitely entertaining. Yes the format is pretty much how you described. But if you like something like 28 Day Later, I'd say watch the first season (the first season is quite short I think) in full. A lot of it is about the characters and how they have to change to survive in the new world.

House of Cards is great as well. I'd recommend you to binge watch each season. I binge watch the first season on DVD, while the second I watched it on a local cable channel weekly and I was lost.

Entourage is funny. It's about an actor and his friends so it's a fun look at the entertainment industry.

Gossip Girl and The O.C are about rich high school kids, so other than the similar actress and the same network I'd say Hart of Dixie is a different series. It's a fish out of water story where the Rachel Bilson character who is a fashionable young doctor working in a big city hospital moves to small southern town to work as the local GP when she inherits a partnership. I've only seen the first season and enjoyed it. It was cute and charming.

    1. Sounds like my list is going to be pretty good, once I get around to them all.
I started Hart of Dixie a few days ago and although the storyline is different the format is the same in regards to the characters so I think I'm going to enjoy it!
