Top 10 Disney Songs (Allie)

If too much time passes between my list-making, I get a little nervous. I start to make a list of different lists that I should/could make. Behind the scenes here at Flick Chicks, not only do we have a list of lists, but I even took the time to re-arrange and colour code it. To stop my crazyness, I thought it was about time I just made another Top 10! Here you have, in order (obviously) my Top 10 Disney Songs...

10. Under the Sea, The Little Mermaid (1989)

I can't believe this film is as old as I am!

9. Just Can't Wait to be King, The Lion King (1994)

This was the first film I ever saw at the cinema, and probably the first song I knew all the words to.

8. A Whole New World, Aladdin (1992)

I have so much love for this film. This song still gives me goosebumps!

7. On My Way, Brother Bear (2003)

The film itself isn't a favourite of mine, but I love this song so much.

6. Stick to the Status Quo, High School Musical (2006)

Such a guilty pleasure, and I could have gone with any from this film!

5. The Bells of Notre Dame, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)

This is another film I vividly remember seeing at the cinema, I remember crying an awful lot too! I was that kid that everyone felt sorry for in the screen.

4. Tale as Old as Time, Beauty and the Beast (1991)

Ahh, this song is so beautiful. I am seriously contemplating having it played at my wedding...

3. Man or Muppet, The Muppets (2011)

This song is perfect in every single way; I laughed till I cried in the cinema! Me and my other half do a fantastic duet of this in the car...

2. I've Got a Dream, Tangled (2010)

I could have picked any song from this film, which is probably my favourite Disney film at the moment! I know all the words, and put on the voices too...

1. Let it Go, Frozen (2013)

I'm sorry, you probably find this predictable but this song speaks to me on so many levels. Plus I can't think of any other song that I love to belt out in the car to work more than this!

It's only just occurred to me that Toy Story hasn't featured in my list, which upsets me! There are just so many songs to choose from. I'm thinking that a Top 10 Disney Films list needs to be done very soon, and Toy Story will rank highly on that one for me. I'll just add it to my list of lists...

Blockbusted Blogathon: Tremors (1990) / Mars Attacks (1996)

This will be Flick Chicks first Blogathon and I couldn't be more excited.  This was set up by Katy from Girl Meets Cinema as a way to 'spread shameless love for the B-Movie awesomeness' and that it is doing.

This is the initial post from Katy if you want to contribute to the Blogathon

I really love these blog challenges, they prompt me to try something different or watch a film again that I haven't seen in years.  This did just that.  My film choice is the 1990 film Tremors with Kevin Bacon, Fred Ward and Finn Carter.

I had forgotten all about this film until I saw it in the Blogathon list but it is not only awesome but it has sentimental value for me too.  This was mine and my Dad's Saturday afternoon movie, we watched it all the time on VHS (I don't think my Mom could stomach it so went to the kitchen to bake or clean!).  Then when the film finished I would play 'Tremors' in the living room, jumping from furniture to furniture to avoid touching the floor.

This scene truly terrified me and I never went on a pogo stick again (and don't think I ever will).  My favourite characters by far were Burt and Heather Gummer played by Michael Gross and Reba McEntire and their insane armoury under their house.  Unfortunately, the monster work wasn't great but I don't think that takes away from this film at all, its less about how scary the monster and more about the tense will it or wont it hear us.  It has all the tension of Paranormal Activity but with an interesting storyline.

I may now watch this film the weekend, probably with my Dad an I will probably play 'tremors' after just for nostalgia.

It's so exciting to be part of a Blogathon! I'm looking forward to reading everyone else's posts once they're posted too. My film choice just had to be Mars Attacks.

I think I was about 9 or 10 years old when I first saw this. I was staying the night at my Grandparents' house and was doing my usual 'I can't sleep I'm hungry' routine. My Grandparents had just put this film on, and apparently I assured them that I wouldn't be scared and was adamant that I watched it.

Needless to say, it terrified me and I didn't sleep at all that night! At the same time though, I loved it, and I still don't know why. I ran around the house making that alien sound, with my hands in a gun position. I bought the VHS of it, and even convinced my brother who is 5 years younger than me to watch it, but he ran out of the room crying at the cows on fire. I actually think I instilled a fear of cows into him...

Whilst writing this post, I have the biggest urge to watch this film again just for those childhood memories! Maybe I'll invite my brother over...

Thank you Katy for inspiring us to do this post, I'm sure it's the first of many Blogathon posts to come!

Currently Watching...Arrow (Allie)

As a DC Comics fan, I felt it my duty to watch Arrow when it first came out. I never really got into Smallville; I started watching it at around Season 7-8, at a time when I didn't know the characters well at all. By the time I knew who Green Arrow was and some of his stories, it didn't matter how cute Justin Hartley was, he wasn't badass enough! Cue Arrow...

Some of my friends instantly wrote this off in the first episode, saying that Oliver (Amell) showed no emotions and was wooden, but I didn't agree. The next few episodes that followed were awesome too and I loved the island flashbacks. However, from about episode 7-8, it all slowed down dramatically, or so I thought at least. This was at a time when I was getting the train to work, and so I carried on watching more to fill in the daily commute than anything else.

Thankfully, the last 4 episodes of Season 1 blew me away and the finale was one of the best I've seen in a TV Show. I was so glad I stuck it out! Major kudos goes to Manu Bennett, who plays Slade Wilson. By far my favourite character!

Fast forward to now and I've just finished Season 2. SPOILER ALERT for any UK readers who recorded it last night! I thought the finale was good, but it didn't have the shock factor that Season 1 had, in fact, I was more shocked at Episode 20, Seeing Red, when Slade made Oliver choose between his mother Moira and his sister Thea. If they could have incorporated that last scene into the finale itself, then this would have been one of the greatest episodes in TV history. That episode had me hiding in my hoodie, crying and shouting at the TV. I still don't think I've recovered from it yet, I never will!

Again, Slade Wilson just made this Season awesome, I'm really going to miss him and I hope the show continues to be great without him. Who can forget this moment?

I'm also a shameless fan of Olicity, and I'm seriously hoping/thinking/convinced that the whole 'I love you' thing wasn't just a game. I've been wishing and wishing for them to get together since Season 1 and so I'll be eagerly waiting for Season 3!

Bonus!

I also can't wait for The Flash to start soon!

Review: The Lifeguard (2013)

This film was on Sky Go and I always download films from there to watch on flights and in airports.  So, I watched this film en route to Geneva and I got so engrossed it in, I forgot to rush off my first flight and nearly missed my connecting flight... Oops!! Like you need an excuse!

The story follows Leigh, played by Kristen Bell, a 29 year old journalist living in New York and sleeping with her taken boss.  When she finds out he has proposed to his girlfriend, her life starts to spiral out of control so she heads back to her home town of Connecticut and back to her parents to try to find herself.  Instead she finds herself grasping onto her youth for dear life and developing a relationship with a troubled 17 year old, played by David Lambert.

This film was a quite slow but it kept my interest throughout but I hadn't heard of this fil either so I had no expectations which always helps.  I didn't know what to expect from Kristen Bell after seeing her in comedy roles but she was fantastic as the young adult that doesn't want to grow up and slowly learns the difference between growing old and growing up!!  The contrast between the bleak, dim scenes in New York and the brightness and openess of Connecticut further showed her change of feelings as she moved from one place to another.  The story was really well written and the filming, I thought was fantastic, there were many scenes where nothing was said and it was just Leigh on screen and but the way it was shot showed what she was feeling.  Somewhere near the middle of the film there was a scene depicting time passing by and Leigh and Little Jason's relationship using the swimming pool, the sky and skateboarding, keep an eye out for it if you see it!! I love little artistic moments like that, you'll have to show me next time I see you.

In case you too haven't heard of it, here is the trailer:

This isn't a film that would catch my eye to be honest if I was browsing through, but I haven't seen many films with Kristen Bell in and I'll always give a film a try, so I might just give this a watch! Onto the growing list it goes...!

Overall, a great story played out by brilliant actors and interesting to watch, definite recommendation.

Currently Watching...Men at Work (Jenna)

So, since finding out that Raising Hope had been cancelled after 4 seasons and now being fully up to date with Mom, therefore having to wait a whole week for each new episode, I needed a new comedy series to keep me entertained.  This did not disappoint.  The comedic timing, the nature of most of the jokes (i.e. directed at each other within the group of friends) and the similarities to me and most of my friends makes this such an easy but hilarious watch.

The series follows four guys who work at a magazine called full steam, Gibbs (the cool one), Tyler (the pretty one), Neal (the geek) and Milo (the other guy).  Funnily enough, they never appear to actually get any work done, unless its specific to the storyline, however I can live with the huge plot holes and sometimes massively set up jokes because the writing is most cases is genius and suspiciously like my life, for example Gibbs debating which Ryan is better, Gosling or Reynolds and immediately realising 'nah they're both beautiful men!' (I'm paraphrasing as I can't remember the exact quote!)

Plus, the latest episode I watched saw Milo accidently take ecstasy with what I considered laugh out loud, you have to watch it to understand.

I have read so many reviews of people saying how this has been done before and it's not at all funny.  These people must be crazy, yes it has a similar vibe to Friends or How I Met Your Mother but I love those shows so why wouldn't I love this!?

I am now running out of episodes to watch so hopefully it will be renewed for another season, otherwise I will be needing some recommendations for new comedies to watch.  Suggestions??

All in all, it's light hearted and enjoyable.  Don't think about it too much, just watch and laugh!
