I think he had spent those years holding on to the life he had (in order to survive) and it's crushing that doesn't get to. You go through all that and everyone else just moves on? Ouch.

To this day, the 'horror' movie Mama has hands-down the worst ending ever. EVER. I don't even want to talk about it. Well, not without shouting and punching something in the process.

Great post!m.brownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14457418128925003938noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5241042113714033295.post-76050963237525875092014-11-29T16:53:16.917+00:002014-11-29T16:53:16.917+00:00I've had that problem a few times. The Enforce...I've had that problem a few times. The Enforcer was one I felt had a lot of potential that got wasted. This was the third Dirty Harry film and FINALLY we get to see a female police officer who almost manages to be a strong character (though it would have helped if they didn't insist on putting her in heels and a dress during the chase scenes).

It was fairly compelling... up until we got rushed and totally pointless climax set on Alcatraz for no particularly good reason, at which point the female cop gets a completely unnecessary and contrived death scene. I think I see what they were trying to go for with that, but the way they did it adds nothing to the story. Maybe if at the end there was scene with Harry recommending her for a posthumous award or something but no, her death could have easily been cut from the film with nothing changed. Harry just fires a rocket launcher at a tower and then the movie ends. Rushed and contrived, it made the whole experience of watching the film feel like a waste of time. That was also the point where I finally decided I'm not going to bother with any more of Dirty Harry's crappy sequels (Magnum Force was just as much a disappointment, if for different reasons).

Leon: The Professional was another one where I had that problem, though it may also be my feminist side kicking in. I mean they've basically got every cop in the city armed and trying to break into Leon's apartment, and there is not a single woman among them. It just seemed statistically improbable, not to mention a wasted opportunity. I mean throughout the movie Leon keeps bringing up his rule of "No women, no children", so having him confronted with a female cop who wanted to kill him would be a great opportunity to test just how far he would go with that rule. Also it was kinda a disappointment that for all the trouble he takes to teach Natalie Portman to be an assassin, she spends most of the climax running away and never really gets to use her skills. Everything up to that point was great, but that ending really took me out of it.John Hitchcockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13373653979400552490noreply@blogger.com
